Trying Cypriot cuisine 'is a must'

Cyprus holidaymakers should try sampling the local cuisine and venturing into the countryside to experience all that the island has to offer, according to one expert.
Lillian Panayi, spokesperson for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, said: "The beauty of Cyprus is that you'll actually eat food that is in season, so you're tasting it at its freshest."
The island's 300 days of sunshine a year and unspoilt countryside are the reason behind the fresh taste of the fruit and vegetables, she added.
The tourism specialist encouraged visitors to try her favourite pasttime and venture out into the countryside and experiment with Cypriot cuisine in small village restaurants where food is cooked in the traditional way.
Recent research carried out by the Tourism Board found that 58 per cent of travellers enjoy experiencing a country's menu while on holiday, while 30 per cent of people said that eating Mediterranean food reminded them of previous trips abroad.
