'Smash pots' on your holiday to Corfu this Easter

People staying in accommodation in Corfu this Easter might like to join in with an annual tradition that the residents of the island take part in - pot smashing.
On Easter Saturday at 11:00 local time, church bells throughout the region will sound, signalling to all citizens that now is the time to throw earthenware containers from their windows to the streets below, What's On When reports.
It apparently originated in Corfu Town but has since spread to the surrounding villages and the practice has evolved to include water-filled jugs which, the news source noted, "make for an even louder noise upon impact".
The custom was taken from the people of Venice, who would throw their old belongings out on New Year's Day to make room for new ones in the coming 12 months.
Day trips from Corfu to the island of Othoni could also be an enjoyable way to spend part of a holiday.
According to the Queens Gazette, this isle consists of 13 villages, olive trees, a mountain range and sandy beaches.
