Crete holidays 'have it all'

With a rich history and diverse natural wildlife, Crete is the ideal place to holiday whether you are a nature lover, interested in archaeology or just want to lie by one of the four seas that surround the island, it has been suggested.
Writing for Suite 101, Marlene de Wilde described how the island's diversity encourages people all-year round thanks to its attractive temperatures and crystal-clear seas.
There are lively cities and resorts on the north of the island or small towns and villages for those looking for a more relaxed and intimate holiday experience, Ms de Wilde said, such as Elounda, a fishing village that has archaeological ruins surrounding the harbour.
She detailed how the south of the island has pebbly beaches, but as a result they are often deserted and travellers can find a remote stretch of seafront to themselves.
This summer could be the perfect time to explore the Greek islands, according to Gemma Bowes of the Guardian, who explained how the recent disruption to air travel meant she had a peaceful holiday with very few tourists, despite travelling to one of the country's most popular resorts during the high season.
