People about to book flights to Greece may find that costs to get into the country have fallen.
This is according to Nadine Hallak, travel expert at comparison site Cheapflights.co.uk, who said that this is what happened when Iceland went bankrupt in 2008, a move that saw Britons paying 40 per cent less for their trips.
She was commenting in response to a statement from United Nations World Tourism Organisation appealing to tourism stakeholders to support Greece at this time and throughout the warmer months.
"Greece will likely do what other economically hard-hit countries have done in the past and leverage the travel industry to stimulate the economy," Ms Hallak remarked.
In addition, she recommended checking with the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office for all updates to ensure that travel restrictions have not been enforced.
The recent gains made by sterling against the euro mean that holiday spending money is now worth more than 10% more than the beginning of March with reports suggesting that many taverna owners are cutting their prices in a bid to entice holidaymakers away from self-catering and into spending money with local businesses.
