How To Get There
There is something reallly special about arriving on a Greek island by boat and this particularly applies to the island of Kea. The ferry only takes an hour and departs from the port of Lavrio on the mainland, which is an easy forty minute drive down the main highway from Athens airport.
There are plenty of direct flights to Athens from the UK and it is approximately a 3 hour journey. You can fly direct from Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, Luton and Manchester. Carriers include:

Galiskaris
More infoKea is prized for its many superb beaches, not least the one at Galiskaris. Lapped by crystal clear waters and shaded by eucalyptus trees with a sophisticated little beach bar, this is a must for beach lovers.
Korissia
More infoA picturesque little harbour where the ferries from the mainland arrive, Korrisia has a waterfront lined with cafes, shops and tavernas. It also has a long sandy beach where, thanks to its setting in a large natural bay, the waters are always calm.
Otzias
More infoThe bay at Otzias is surrounded by green hills dotted with whitewashed chapels, and a fabulous crescent shaped beach of pristine sand and shingle. The crystal clear water and a gently shelving beach makes this a perfect place for children.

Kea - a truly 'Greek' island
The island of Kea is truly authentic; you are unlikely to see another non-Greek tourist as no package holidays come here and the majority of people who visit the island are weekending Athenians.
Although Kea is quite small, it has a charm all of its own and there is certainly lots to do and see while you are here.
We would like to thank previous clients Nigel and Lucy Organ who kindly provided us with a lot of the photos of Kea shown on this website.
Accommodation on the island ranges from stylish boutique hotels to rustic houses, and is based mainly to the north of the island where there are several great beaches, particularly the ones at Gialiskari and Otzias bay. The beaches at Pisses and Koundouros are also well worth a visit and have good quality tavernas.
The food on Kea is particularly good by any standards and there is a good range of options with reasonable prices. We particularly like Akri Taverna in Korissia for a simple lunch, The Nine Daughters just past Vourkari is more upmarket and is a great place for dinner (the lobster spaghetti is to die for) and Annas in Otzias serves some of the best traditional Greek dishes on the island (try the octopus cooked in ouzo).
Even the nightlife is surprisingly sophisticated considering it is somewhat off the beaten track, with a few popular bars in Korissia and Vourkari, a traditional Greek bouzouki and the Atlantic beach bar providing the main highlights.
The capital Ioulis is a wonderful place to spend time, with its maze of little cobbled streets that are predominantly pedestrian. There is a museum of Culture, little cafes and traditional ouzeri (a special mention must go to our friend Rolando). There is also a gorgeous little town hall in the square where one of our Directors was married last year.
The main way to pass the days are on the beach; you can easily find a deserted sandy cove perfect for a romantic picnic for two. Or maybe walking the well established network of ancient footpaths which have many archaeological sites to visit such as the Temple of Apollo at Karthia or the spectacular ruins at Agios Marina.
